This season, we unveil a limited-edition short-sleeve blouse, meticulously constructed from the extraordinarily Yi Se (Two-Tone) Luo silk—a fabric once reserved for the literati and nobility of the Song Dynasty.
The Fabric is A Narrative in Thread & Light
Unlike any other silk, Two-Tone Luo is an architectural marvel in textile form. It merges the intricate, symbolic patterning of Song brocade with the complex gauze-weave (Luo) structure, renowned for its stable, breathable pores.
As you move, light filters through the porous Luo weave, causing the interior and exterior colors to interact and shift. This is wearable, kinetic art—a quiet spectacle of color and shadow.
We have chosen a relaxed, boxy silhouette with a traditional Pipa Lute front* to honor the fabric's structural genius. The clean, modern lines provide a neutral canvas, allowing the textile's inherent drama to take center stage.
Due to the immensely complex and slow process of weaving this fabric on traditional looms, each shirt is a singular object. Variations in the interplay of color are not flaws but a signature of its authentic craftsmanship.
* Pipa Jin (琵琶襟), literally meaning "Pipa Lute Front", is a distinctive type of garment closure or front design found in traditional Chinese clothing, most notably in Qing Dynasty attire like the Magua (马褂, riding jacket).
It is characterized by an asymmetrical front that does not meet at the center. Instead, one side of the garment (usually the right) features a short, curved panel that hooks or buttons to the garment's body diagonally, below the armpit level. This creates a visual effect reminiscent of the rounded, tapering shape of a Pipa, a traditional Chinese lute.
