Product description:
This jacket is made with a very precious type of Chinese silk fabric called Xiang Yun Sha, dyed in organic blue color with a three-dimensional jacquard floral pattern. Lined with silk blend fabric with subtle jacquard patterns.
Xiang Yun Sha is a kind of silk fabric coated with the juice of a type of root plant - Dioscorea matsudae Hayata, followed by being covered with the mud of the river containing mineral substances, and then exposed to the sun. At present, Xiang Yun Sha (woven silk fabric) is mainly produced in Shunde, a city in southern China. The dyeing technique for Xiang Yun Sha is one of the national intangible cultural heritages of China.
Xiang Yun Sha is known as the "soft gold" in the textile industry. It is made through a process of three steps of washing, nine steps of cooking, and eighteen times of sun-drying, which takes half a month. The dyeing and finishing technique, known as sun-drying, is very complicated. It is entirely handmade, including multiple processes such as soaking, sun-drying, sealing, cooking, mud covering, and water washing. The production process of Xiang Yun Sha is tedious and meticulous, and it takes at least half a year from fabric to clothing.
